Homework Policy
Here are a few tidbits of information about our classroom:
Homework is an effective way of reinforcing and reviewing the day’s work studied in school. Responsible third graders are expected to complete homework in a timely manner. Your children have been given homework agendas containing behavior charts that are used to note homework and important information for you. I check each agenda before dismissal to confirm that all homework has been noted correctly and then stamp the agenda with my signature. This way you can be sure that nothing was eliminated. Agendas need to be checked daily and signed to ensure you and your child have reviewed the homework assignments and information. Agendas are also used as a means of communication between home and school.
Homework is given daily in Reading, Math, and Spelling. The students are asked to read for 10 minutes each evening in addition to any written skill work. The students may read a story, poem, newspaper, comic book, magazine, etc. that they enjoy reading. I also encourage you to read with your children each evening. Daily reading will help your students become proficient readers. Think-Tac-Toe Boards, monthly reading calendars, and book logs will be distributed beginning in October to track your child’s reading at home. Look for more information coming soon!
Math homework will consist of computation as well as practice that ties into daily lessons and calendar math. This may include playing a math game with your child. Multiplication facts should be practiced each evening as this will help to gain mastery as the year progresses.
Classroom Assessments:
Spelling Test each Friday
Math quiz each Friday
Math CBM each Wednesday
Math Facts 1-2 xs per week
Vocabulary quiz each Thursday
Ongoing/cumulative portfolio assessments in writing and math
Fluency assessment biweekly
