Mrs. Sonja K. Brown
Hi there! My name is Sonja Brown and this is my 10th year as an elementary school teacher. I am currently a 5th grade teacher at the Hancock School in Brockton, MA. My first three years of teaching were spent at the Davis School. I received a BA in Communication Arts and Sciences from Bridgewater State University (BSU) and a BA in Elementary Education from Rhode Island College (RIC). I am currently pursuing a Masters Degree in Reading and Literacy from Endicott College. I have also held several additional positions within the school system. I have been a Peer Leader Advisor and sat on the Report Card Committee as well as the ELA Steering Committee for Brockton. I was also a Harvard University Instructional Rounds Participant and have worked as a private tutor and teacher in the after-school program. I have been a guest speaker at RIC and addressed undergraduate students majoring in elementary education. I spend a lot of time volunteering for social organizations such as The Make-A-Wish Foundation (Wishgranter), Habitat for Humanity (Home Builder), Hugs for Healing (Community Action Project Leader, City-Wide Initiative in Conjunction with Good Samaritan Hospital), School on Wheels (Tutor), and The Jimmy Fund (Fundraising Coordinator, Jimmy Fund Walk Participant). This fall, I will be participating in the Step Out Walk for the American Diabetes Association in memory of my mother. I am very excited about my current project. I am working on writing and publishing my first children's book. Prior to my teaching career, I was an Events Coordinator for 5 Providence, RI radio stations. I am married with two children, Kacey, my son, 6, and Kylie, my daughter, 5. In my spare time, I enjoy traveling, spending time with family and friends, dance, theatre, running, yoga, and reality TV.
